Keck Medicine of USC includes the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the region’s first medical school; the renowned USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the first comprehensive cancer centers established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States; the USC Care Medical Group, a medical faculty practice; the Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes two acute care hospitals: 401-licensed bed Keck Hospital of USC and 60-licensed bed USC Norris Cancer Hospital; and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, a 158-licensed bed community hospital. It also includes more than 40 outpatient facilities, some at affiliated hospitals, in Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Tulare and Ventura counties.

In 2016, U.S. News & World Report ranked Keck Medical Center of USC among the Top 10 hospitals in the state and among the Top 50 hospitals in the United States in seven specialties: ophthalmology, urology, cancer, geriatrics, orthopedic surgery, nephrology and cardiology and heart surgery.

Collector - USC Care - Full Time 8 Hour Days

Receive and manage all incoming inquiries from any customer; patient, insurance company, USC employee as walk-ins or via telephone or written correspondence. Documents all activity in the facility’s patient accounting system. Requirements will include being well versed in insurance products, medical group risks, and all governmental programs and benefits structures. Must be knowledgeable of the Financial Assistance Programs and all screening requirements. Contacts and work collaboratively with the financially responsible party with regards to patient liability. Partner to evaluate the ability to meet their obligation and collect monies due to the organization. Able to work with minimal supervision.

Minimum Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:

Two years of experience in a hospital business office with a high call volume setting.
Understanding of hospital reimbursement methodologies, including DRGs, APGs and standard payment methodology.
Expert knowledge of self pay collection techniques.
Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and all other third party payment methods.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette.
Problem solving skills essential.
Insurance knowledge and communication with payers.
Ability to think independently and use good judgment for situations which require initiative and innovation.
Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and some knowledge of Access (preferred).
Knowledge of basic office equipment.
Ability to establish work priorities and prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
10 Key by touch and ability to type 45 wpm.
Basic math calculation skills.
Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT-4 and HCPC’s coding systems – PREFERRED
Understanding of contract payer policies and procedures – PREFERRED
Ability to interpret Managed Care Contracts – PREFERRED
Bilingual English/Spanish - PREFERRED

Required License/Certification:

Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
