Director of Risk Management - Health System Risk Management - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

Keck Hospital - Office of Integrated Risk Management Hospital Glendale, California

To provide program direction and management for the coordination of all activities relating to the hospital-wide Risk Management Program. The individual will protect the physical, financial and human assets by identifying significant risks to those assets, development and implementation of risk prevention programs, and minimizing the cost of claims through effective claims and litigation management.   Functions include:

  • Coordinate systems to identify, evaluate, monitor and reduce/eliminate liability risk exposures
  • Loss prevention and reduction assessment and plan development with appropriate initiatives specific to both campuses
  • Management of occurrence reporting, data collection, analysis, tracking and trending
  • Claims management, handling and settlement
  • Risk assessment, analysis, trending and financing according to frequency and severity in cooperation with Tenet Corporate
  • Counsel and educate management, staff, patients and guests on risk exposures, prevention and reduction strategies

Serves as a resource/consultant for all departments

Minimum Education: BS in Nursing or Health Care Management required. MS preferred. Graduate education in hospital administration or Risk Management, A.R.M. preferred. Minimum Experience/Knowledge: Minimum two (2) years Risk Management experience in an acute care setting within the last eight (8) years. Progressive experience in healthcare administration with experience in healthcare Risk Management. Knowledge of clinical practices, and statistics. Demonstrates leadership ability in relating to healthcare and management professionals. Problem solving skills: Ability to identify a problem, draw valid conclusions, implement and manage appropriate resolutions. Report Analysis: Able to develop, compile and analyze statistical reports. Must be highly skilled at working with various departments within a large medical center, and will manage initiatives from inception through implementation. Must be an effective communicator and possess strong presentation and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Required License/Certification: Successful completion of a specialized education program in Risk Management and/or certification in Risk Management, preferred. Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
