Keck Medicine of USC

Keck Medicine of USC includes the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the region’s first medical school; the renowned USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the first comprehensive cancer centers established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States; the USC Care Medical Group, a medical faculty practice; the Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes two acute care hospitals: 401-licensed bed Keck Hospital of USC and 60-licensed bed USC Norris Cancer Hospital; and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, a 158-licensed bed community hospital. It also includes more than 40 outpatient facilities, some at affiliated hospitals, in Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Tulare and Ventura counties.

In 2016, U.S. News & World Report ranked Keck Medical Center of USC among the Top 10 hospitals in the state and among the Top 50 hospitals in the United States in seven specialties: ophthalmology, urology, cancer, geriatrics, orthopedic surgery, nephrology and cardiology and heart surgery.

Minimum Education:

  •  Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree (Health Administration, Nursing, Industrial Engineering

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:

Minimum

  • 3 years leading process improvement efforts to improve clinical, operational, and financial performance in an Academic Health System
  • Proficient PC skills. Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and statistical software programs. Knowledge of business (operational, clinical and financial) statistics and data analyses techniques. Ability to manage and analyze data. Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

Preferred

  • Managerial experience with direct supervisor responsibility of clinical staff

Required License/Certification:

  •  Any of the following licenses are preferred:  MD, RN, CLS, PT, OTRL, PA, NP, PharmD.                
  • Fire and Safety Certification.  If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. 


The Director of Clinical Operations Improvement leads improvement efforts to redesign care processes to optimize value (improve outcomes, patient satisfaction and reduce cost), with special focus on the development of clinical processes to facilitate the flow of patients throughout the continuum of care. The director leads the assessment and diagnostic of problems, architects data analytics, develops performance dashboards, and leads and manages structured improvement initiatives, from large scale transformational projects, to focused improvement events. The director also acts as a coach for his/her team and for any directors/managers he/she interacts with to help them establish mechanisms to sustain performance after the completion of projects. The Director establishes collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, other clinicians and administrators to build support for change and sustainability efforts
