Basic Job Purpose: Administers and directs the administration of physical agents and procedures utilized in PMR at a specialized skill level as prescribed by a referring physician in order to improve the functional status of the patient. A.MAJOR FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Performs all of the functions, duties and responsibilities of the Staff Physical Therapist I and II and in addition: 2.Performs evaluations and develops treatment plans at a specialty level of skill and expertise. 3.Researches and develops new programs for the PMR department and the hospital. 4.Assumes additional duties as requested by a PT Coordinator or the PMR Director. B.QUALIFICATIONS 1.Ability a.Effective oral and written communication skills to work with patients, families, physicians and other personnel. b.Teaching skills to provide education for Physical Therapy Interns as well as to educate other staff members and patients. c.Performs effective evaluation and treatment techniques along with developing treatment plans to meet therapy and patient goals. d.Capable of team leadership and developing new programs for the PMR department and hospital as a whole. e.Capable of handling a high volume patient caseload. 2.Knowledge: a.Must understand and utilize the theories behind physical medicine at a specialty level of skill. b.Must understand theory, precautions and contraindications for all physical medicine agents and procedures for their effects on the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. c.Must have knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and psychosocial issues in order to assess the effects of treatment on body function and structures for the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. d.Must understand concepts of isolation, sterile technique and the applications within physical medicine e.Must understand required policies and procedures for PMR and the hospital in general. Minimum Education: Graduation from a Physical Therapy curriculum with B.S., M.S., DPT or certificate in Physical Therapy from a school approved by the council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Minimum Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in a Physical Therapy Acute Care, SNF, Home Health or Outpatient setting(s). Depending on the area the therapist will work here, two of those previous years will be related to their primary specialty area. Experience in two or more of the above settings required. Minimum Field of Expertise: - Current license to practice Physical Therapy in California. - Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association is desired. - Current BCLS Certification.
