Adjunct, Radio and Podcasting

Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism Faculty Los Angeles, California

The Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks a highly qualified adjunct instructor to teach JOUR 525 The California Life: Storytelling for Radio and Podcasting.

The instructor should have Advanced public radio- and podcasting-style experience, including with editing of advanced feature pieces, is essential.

Instructor will teach basic reporting skills for public broadcast style and focuses on more advanced reporting and production skills geared for long-form productions and podcasting. Emphasis will be on narrative structure, advanced use of sound, scene creation, writing for the ear, developing a narrative voice, and documentary and podcasting points of view. Work produced from this class has frequently led directly to professional opportunities and careers in public media.

Familiarity with various types of production and narrative style will be helpful.  Fluency in Spanish helpful.  Should have command of editing software, such as Pro Tools or Adobe Audition.  Experience, skill and patience in working with young journalists, and ability to quickly turn around edits to students, is essential.  Curiosity and imagination are musts.

Requirements for consideration include a B.A., B.S., M.S., or an M.A. degree in a related field.  Previous teaching experience is desirable.  For some courses, outstanding professional experience may be substituted for academic credentials.
