Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Communications

Law School Los Angeles, California

In support of the vision of the Dean and Associate Dean for the Gould School of Law, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations assists the Director of Alumni Relations with the design, implementation and management of outreach and communications programs to maximize alumni engagement with the Gould School of Law. The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations is a key member of USC Gould School of Law development team and plays a vital role in the school's ability to achieve its alumni outreach and engagement goals.

Job Accountabilities and Organization Support:

  • Assist the Director of Alumni Relations with all alumni events, programming, and communications.
  • Manage all Gould School of Law Reunion activities and USC Half Century Reunion Gould Trojan events.
  • Assist in the coordination of the annual Gould School of Law Mentor Lunch with Career Services.
  • Coordinate Alumni Relations calendar of programs and regional events with other USC and USC Gould Alumni and Development colleagues.
  • Manage USC Gould Alumni web site updates with Office of Information Technology.
  • Compose online class notes.
  • Produce monthly Gould alumni and Board of Councilors newsletter.
  • Manage Gould Alumni Relations and Gould Alumni Association’s social media outlets.
  • Serve as main point of contact for alumni constituent requests and updates, managing multiple email accounts.
  • Oversee Gould Trojan Family Magazine submissions to USC University Communications per communicated schedule.
  • Coordinate development marketing and communications for development and alumni relations including the Gould Law Magazine’s Honor Roll and Obituary sections with Gould PR Office.
  • Produce online marketing for alumni events.
  • Maintain a high-degree of proficiency with Salesforce (Central University development database) in order to identify, select, segment and update constituents in support of alumni relations efforts.
  • Acts as a trusted and experienced resource to development colleagues on alumni relations matters.


  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Proven ability to engage constituents through newsletters, social media, events, etc.
  • Experience with customer relationship management databases, preferably Salesforce.
  • Experience in managing successful alumni relation programs and requisite materials, preferably in higher education.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word.
  • Superior written and verbal skills.
  • Experience working with and motivating volunteers.
  • High level of sensitivity to customer relations.
  • Ability to act decisively and to maintain flexibility.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals while continuously upgrading standards to maintain quality in all areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • A sense of humor and belief in the value of collaborative colleagueship.

Minimum Experience: 1 year

Minimum Field of Expertise: Volunteer or support group administrative or management experience.
