Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications – Ethics and Culture

The USC Office of Culture, Ethics and Compliance (OCEC) works with leadership and stakeholders across USC to foster a culture in which doing the right thing and making decisions consistent with values, policies, and legal and regulatory requirements is the everyday and expected course of action. The Culture, Ethics and Compliance Program is intended to support and drive the institution’s commitment to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, detect and correct compliance violations promptly, eliminate misconduct and other unethical behavior through the diligent and analytical work of its team members, and support the programmatic embedding of the institution’s unifying values and behaviors into system and process improvements across critical focus areas of culture through partnerships with internal stakeholders and advisory bodies, and within schools and units. The Position:

The Ethics and Culture team within OCEC is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications – Ethics and Culture. Reporting to the Director of Organizational Change – Ethics and Culture, this position will oversee all marketing and communication activity for the Culture Journey (USC’s long-term program for improving organizational culture) and will advise on and assist with such activity for other OCEC teams as needed. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team that is instrumental in the evolution of USC as an institution.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Craft email communications from the Ethics and Culture team and other OCEC teams to school and unit leaders, to university administration, and to USC more broadly.

  • Liaise with OCEC stakeholders to solicit input for marketing and communications content.

  • Maintain a comprehensive communications strategy and plan for OCEC centered on the Culture Journey.

  • Develop and maintain a brand, including logos and related materials, for OCEC and the Culture Journey.

  • Develop and enhance the Culture Journey’s social media footprint in partnership with University Communications.

  • Maintain the OCEC and Culture Journey websites and update resources on the Culture Journey intranet.

  • Support all OCEC teams with the creation of creative assets, such as PowerPoint and email templates.

  • Manage content for the Culture Journey Newsletter and distribute to Culture Journey Partners.

  • Collect key analytics from OCEC websites, emails, and social media to provide insight on communications effectiveness.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required); advanced degree (preferred).

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications preferably in the field of higher education.

  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with a diverse population of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and executing across multiple marketing and communications channels and media.

  • Highly developed skills in creating content, writing, and copyediting.

  • Meticulous attention to detail when producing marketing and communication deliverables.  

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.

  • Demonstrated experience using CRM-based automated marketing systems, such as Salesforce.

  • Demonstrated experience capturing, interpreting, and acting upon web, email, and social media analytics.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 5 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Thorough knowledge of marketing and management. Knowledge of the principles, practices, concepts, methodology, and techniques of marketing. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated creative and artistic skills.
