Associate Dean, Development and External Relations

Development and Alumni Relations Los Angeles, California

The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism department of Development and External Relations, is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic professional to join our high-performing team.

The Associate Dean, Development and External Relations will be an important member of the senior management team for the School. In this role, s/he will plan, coordinate, and in close collaboration with the Dean, execute our development activities and external fundraising efforts. S/he will be responsible for a portfolio of the School's top major and principal gifts donors and prospects.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and exhibit a commitment to collaborative fundraising.  S/he will possess excellent communications skills and demonstrate highly advanced organizational skills to maintain a broad spectrum of relationships.

Additionally ​, the successful candidate will:

  • Direct the comprehensive fundraising efforts for the Annenberg School. Ensure compliance with university fundraising policies, goals and procedures.
  • Develop and manage school fiscal year operating budget. Authorizes expenditures. Provides financial status reports and projections.
  • Collaborates with the dean, faculty and staff to establish the school's fundraising goals. Develop, implement, monitor and assess strategies to achieve goals.
  • Develop and manage donor relations and prospect management systems, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit major prospects and develop strategic plans for prospects.
  • Develop, prepare and present formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects.
  • Manage senior volunteer groups (e.g., Board of councilors) and major fundraising efforts and events.
