The University of Southern California Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (USC Mann) is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month calendar, non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy, reporting to the department chair. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy (Teaching Track) and Senior Director of Fellowship Programs contributing to the mission of the USC Mann through excellence in education, scholarship/research, and service.

The Senior Director will oversee and manage the post-doctoral fellowships at USC Mann in collaboration with partner pharmaceutical companies, foundations and other support sources. Collaborative efforts with USC Mann faculty will be sought as appropriate. The ideal candidate will have a broad base of experience working with the pharmaceutical industry and demonstrate the ability to work with faculty and pharmaceutical companies to develop high-quality training programs for professionals to achieve career objectives. The candidate should have educational and program management skills and is expected to serve as a resource for students interested in pursuing post-doctoral fellowships, including serving as an advisor for industry-related student organizations. The administrative effort is expected to be at least 50% for oversight of the fellowship programs.

The faculty member will demonstrate teaching excellence through the development and coordination of the industry track within the Doctor of Pharmacy program, including both didactic and experiential course requirements. There may also be opportunities to teach in other USC Mann doctorate, master’s and residency programs that train and produce graduate students interested in pursuing a career in pharmaceutical industry. Evidence-based teaching methods and expert use of pedagogical techniques and technologies are expected.

Collaborative educational scholarship and research across departments in the school and other units within the university is encouraged. The candidate will be expected to develop a scholarly focus aligned with their area(s) of expertise and the USC Mann teaching track promotion guidelines. This includes developing a regional/national reputation through publications, invited presentations, awards, and peer recognition.

As a faculty member, service to the school through active participation is also expected. Routine faculty administration and participation duties, including attendance at departmental and pharmacy faculty council meetings, volunteer or assigned committee service, as well as annual review submissions, peer review, and peer-to-peer teaching evaluation activities are components of faculty citizenship evaluation. The faculty member should also contribute to the growth of the profession through service on a national level, including serving professional society committees which align with the faculty member’s scholarly focus.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Interface with various stakeholders including USC Mann faculty and pharmaceutical companies in the design and continuity of sponsored fellowship training programs
• Work with mentors and fellows to monitor progress and assure quality within each fellowship
• Assure that the description of and engagement of activities by fellows meets the academic rigor expected at USC Mann
• Provide guidance and monitor of the fellows’ performance in their respective programs
• Develop, implement, and maintain tracking mechanisms to monitor fellow and fellowship program performance, outcomes, and progress toward program goals
• Establish and manage systems to support ongoing program assessment in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Assessment and team
• Promote the fellowships and recruitment of candidates within the USC Mann academic framework
• Negotiate and manage budgets for the fellowships
• Reconcile fellowship grants for documentation and reporting purposes
• Develop, coordinate and teach in the pharmaceutical industry-related classes
• Interface with academic units of USC Mann to design and deliver didactic coursework focused on pharmaceutical industry
• Participate in scholarly activities related to pharmaceutical industry and fellowships
• Mentor Doctor of Pharmacy students in industry-focused scholarly projects
• Collaborate with interest groups to provide guidelines and standards for fellowship training
• Supervise staff assigned to the fellowship programs

Applicants must have a PharmD degree. It is highly preferred that candidates have completed a fellowship program and at least 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Greater demonstrated levels of academic accomplishments and leadership skills are expected for those considered for the associate professor rank, commensurate with the standards used for promotion at USC.

The position does not lead to consideration for tenure. Merit reviews are conducted annually from which salary enhancements are decided. Re-appointment and eventual promotion within the teaching track are expectations based on performance assessment and longitudinally via administrative review, with department evaluation, dossier submission and internal/external review.

The annual base salary range for this position is $160,000 - $185,000. Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D)
Minimum Experience: 15+ years pharmaceutical industry experience

Preferred Experience:

Strong pharmaceutical industry background with program management, program administration, and supervisory experiences related to academia and pharmaceutical industry. Leadership abilities with strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, detail-oriented, time-management skills, ability to multitask, problem solve and work closely with other team members are a must. Working knowledge of various software platforms including MS Office, Brightspace, Adobe Acrobat, Qualtrics, Docusign, Google Forms, Microsoft Office, LinkedIn, social media, etc.
