Business Data Analyst, Senior

The USC Office of Compliance was established in response to continuing scrutiny from government regulators and an increasingly complex statutory and regulatory environment.  The Compliance Program is intended to demonstrate the institution’s commitment to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, detect and correct compliance violations promptly, and eliminate misconduct and other unethical behavior through the diligent and analytical work of its team members.

The USC Office of Compliance is seeking a Business Data Analyst, Senior to join its Research Administration Compliance team.  This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing office that is developing its data analytics program to increase transparency and compliance in a variety of research administrative risk areas.

In this role, you will develop and perform data analytics to monitor and ensure compliance in a variety of research administration areas.  You will report the results of data analytics efforts to stakeholders.  You will develop dashboard metrics to share the results of this data analysis with management to enable transparency and monitoring in key research administration areas.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs data analyses and assists in interpretation of results using a variety of techniques to support compliance with USC policy and/or federal and state regulations;
  • Works with management to obtain and identify analytical requirements;
  • Prepares and maintains comprehensive reports and dashboards based on data analytics work;
  • Provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data using statistical methods and tools;
  • Researches best practices, develops benchmarks, and provides dashboard metrics to management leadership;
  • Identifies and documents trends in data analytics across USC schools and departments.
  • Assists in monitoring based on data analytics; and
  • Maintains awareness and knowledge of current changes within legal, regulatory, and USC technology environments which may impact data analytics and reporting.


    Minimum Education

    Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
    Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

    Minimum Experience

    Minimum of 3 years of experience in data analytics or related work


    Minimum Field of Expertise

    Direct knowledge and experience in data modeling, data warehousing and reporting.
    Project management experience for complex projects.
    Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, interpersonal, planning, problem solving, and business analytical skills.
    Able to work at a high functional and technical level.

    5 years
