Controlled Substance Data Analyst - Pharmacy - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Controlled Substance  Data Analyst is an integral part of the Controlled Substance Task Force within the Department of Pharmacy Services, who is responsible for the daily monitoring of controlled substance use and administration within Keck Medicine of USC. The Controlled Substance Task Force works to prevent, detect, and manage cases of drug diversion.

The primary responsibility of the position will be to utilize analytic tools, such as  Pyxis ES and Pandora  to audit and review Automated Dispensing Cabinet  transactions and identify possible discrepancies. The analyst will be responsible for verifying controlled substance documentation (administration, waste, etc.) in addition to trending and analyzing outlier use patterns.

The Controlled Substance Data Analyst   will work directly with the Controlled Substance Pharmacist, and the department of nursing and compliance in providing the analytical support in investigations of suspected cases of drug diversion. Significant collaboration and coordination with leadership and operational personnel will be required.

Minimum Education: • Bachelor’s Degree in a health related field. Advanced degree preferred • Completed a Pharmacy Technician Certification Minimum Experience/Knowledge: • Minimum two years of experience working as a pharmacy technician in a pharmacy setting, preference given to those with in-patient hospital experience working with controlled substances. • Knowledge in informatics and technology. • Experience in data mining techniques and procedures. • Demonstrated competencies in the use of information support systems, automated technologies and analytical tools in a health care setting and the ability to synthesize operational flow into concrete work plan. • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel). • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team with great attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Required License/Certification: • Active CA pharmacy technician license (CPhT) in good standing • Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date (applicable to employees working within City of LA).
