Data Management Specialist

Research Los Angeles, California

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. We have an international reputation as a hub of aging research and, with additional strong programs throughout the university, leads the way in defining and advancing the field of gerontology.

The Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is currently looking for a Data Management Specialist to join its team! This is a grant-based research project funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The study will compare outcomes from two health industry approaches to palliative care: patients who receive enhanced usual care (EUC), with usual care enhanced by provider training in core components of palliative care, and patients who receive home-based palliative (HBPC) care provided by a primary care team. The role of the Data Management Specialist will be to assist with the data management for analysis and reports. Creates and maintains databases and/or spreadsheets. Assists in data ​collection and performs data entry. Extracts data in requested formats. Runs statistical analysis programs, and generates charts and graphs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provides weekly data reports and queries with the use of RedCap and SAS.
  • Communicates with medical group partners as needed.
  • Communicate with study participants as needed.
  • Occasional direct recruitment tasks as needed.
  • Troubleshoots and makes recommendations.
  • Edits and maintain RedCap.  
  • Reviews documents as needed.
  • Compliance with IRB, CITI, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Attends meetings with upper management.
  • Performs office administrative support as needed.

Ideal candidate:

Will have proficient English communication skills. Is attentive to detail and a self-motivator. Comfortable speaking over the phone with all levels of clients, staff, and/or faculty. Clinical research experience highly preferred. SAS or other analytical software experience highly desired. Familiar with the use of RedCap.
