Dental Assistant

Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC is seeking a Dental Assistant to join the Pediatric Dentistry team! We are looking for a highly energetic Bilingual English / Spanish candidate who likes working in a fast-paced environment. This highly motivated individual will perform a combination of duties including both administrative and comprehensive chair-side assisting services for patients during dental treatment procedures. We expect this individual to be in line with our values of teamwork, effective communication, display respect to others and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities include: sets up treatment/clinical area for patients, obtains dental history and records from patients, and prepares materials for making impressions and restorations. Maintains inventory of dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in the dental operatory. Assist with patient registration and provides patient education and treatment planning. In addition, this role will support the execution of COVID-19 screening for patient, employee and student and assist with COVID-19 testing station for the dental community.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, be flexible with supporting various areas and work shifts. The successful candidate should have previous experience working in one or more recognized dental disciplines, possess excellent interpersonal patient service skills, and have the ability to multitask. Candidate must be available to work morning and evening shifts.

This is a fixed-term assignment lasting 3 to 6 months.

Minimum Education: Specialized/technical training Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months Minimum Field of Expertise: Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program. Six to twelve months of chair-side experience in a dental environment or private practice in one or more recognized dental disciplines (general/prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, orthodontics, special patients). Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance, PPO, and dental terminology. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal patient service skills, and ability to multi-task. Working knowledge of proper sterilization and instrument management techniques. Demonstrated experience in a high volume, fast-pace environment. Demonstrated team-oriented and collaborative work style. Ability to travel to and from work at various local locations as well as the flexibility of working a AM/PM availability schedule and rotating department contingency.
