Director, Student Engagement & Career Connections

The Viterbi School’s Office of Admission and Student Affairs is seeking a Director, Student Engagement & Career Connections. As part of a 30 plus member office, the six members of the team will work closely with all undergraduate students developing retention related programs as well as integrating career exploration opportunities throughout the student life cycle. Special programs such as the Klein Institute for Undergraduate Engineering Life (KIUEL), Senior Design Expo, and the Alumni Mentoring Programs are geared towards providing support, while also increasing retention and career awareness within the School. Graduate students will also be served as it relates to alumni and career connections. Additionally, leadership development, engagement with alumni and industry partners, and student organization support are provided to encourage involvement and engagement of undergraduates while also preparing them for post-graduate life. Annual evaluation and data analysis of these efforts are required elements of the position.
The ideal candidate must have experience developing student programs; working with both undergraduate and graduate students; project management and large scale event management; data analysis and management; and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition, they must be detail oriented, organized, creative and possess excellent critical problem solving skills as it relates to student-centered activities and programs.
The individual will:
Manage and evaluate all aspects of the on-campus career-focused activities with appropriate staff. This includes managing staff responsible for coordinating engineering career fairs, networking events, and developing industry-sponsored workshops and other events related to technical careers, post graduate opportunities and innovation ventures.
Compile results of annual reports, freshmen and sophomore surveys, etc. Design and implement assessment measures for all programmatic initiatives. Develop, implement and manage database processes and reports related to engagement analysis.
Develop and compile results annually related to first destination surveys, internship tracking, alumni mentor outreach, student satisfaction surveys, etc.
Develop and implement, with staff, programs that integrate both academic and professional goals of individual students. This includes developing a career advisement program focused on specific engineering majors, industries as well as special populations of students.
Develop and implement programs geared towards student engagement, including Welcome Week activities, leadership development and service learning programs related to the specific personal and professional career goals of students. This includes working with student engagement staff in developing programs for special populations.
Collaborate with FYE advisement staff in integrating career related activities and plans with academic advisement sessions and degree plans.
Direct staff managing the KIUEL Planning Committee, including school-wide programs such as Engineer’s Week.
Provide direction and guidance to staff involved in development of leadership development activities; coordination and guidance to 60+ student organizations via the Viterbi President’s Council as it relates to increasing student engagement and career related activities.
Development of marketing materials utilizing division marketing talent for all programmatic efforts, including creating and maintaining all web-based materials.
Collaborate on student related initiatives with the USC Career Center, Office of International Services, as well as both administrative and academic departments within the Viterbi School.
Provide leadership to staff responsible for managing all efforts division wide related to Alumni Mentoring and Internship Programs.
Work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and Associate Dean in strategic goal-setting and program development within all areas of responsibility.

Doctorate degree preferred. Extensive experience with MS Office software, particularly Excel and Access or other database systems. Experience with web programming and web-based communication management systems.
Knowledge of USC programs and services. Ability to set priorities to complete assignments in a timely manner in the face of changing priorities. Strong organizational and management skills required.
