eDiscovery Analyst (Business Data Analyst)

The eDiscovery Analyst will work in a hands-on capacity to facilitate the searching, preservation, collection, and production of electronically-stored information from various data repositories across the University.  This analyst must have a technical background in data analytics and eDiscovery who has a high attention to detail, strong analytical skills, exceptional communication skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple complex projects at once. This position serves as the technical resource for the systems used to search, preserve, collect, and produce custodial data used in litigation and compliance matters. 

The analyst supports eDiscovery activities around data preservation management, data collection and eDiscovery data extraction, providing direct support to USC’s Office of General Council as required for data capture requests. This analyst will work with clients on activities of low to high complexity; consult with participants and senior Legal personnel to develop data collection and dissemination requirements

Job Accountabilities:

  • Issue, track, release and manage litigation holds for data retention as directed by the Office of General Council.
  • Act as the custodian for all eDiscovery data to ensure it is preserved in accordance with all legal requirements
  • Identify, process, collect, preserve, search, and produce data utilizing eDiscovery software tools
  • Utilize eDiscovery tools for data management:retrieval, analysis, correlation, release and documentation
  • Work with the Office of General Council on proper data handling and preservation policies, procedures and operational requirements while aligning with regulatory and compliance needs.
  • Maintain eDiscovery tool data map locations to ensure all in-scope systems are covered, discoverable and accessible
  • Manage, maintain, audit and track all eDiscovery tool access; this includes provisioning and deprovisioning users and access levels
  • Liaise with USC Office of General Council, Office of the CISO, units and schools and external council and agencies as required
  • Act as custodian for all eDiscovery data.This includes all data associated with any active or closed cases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Minimum 2 years eDiscovery experience
  • Experience working, communicating and taking direction from legal department staff
  • High level of discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Understanding of eDiscovery data management systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail with proven problem-solving ability
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Expert experience working with eDiscovery tools – preferably Relativity and EnCase 
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


  • 4 years of data processing and analytics experience
  • Working knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM)
  • Working knowledge of regular expressions (regex) for use in building custom queries
  • Scripting experience is a plus.PERL, Python, PowerShell
