Experimental Machinist

Machine Shop Los Angeles, California

The USC Viterbi-Dornsife Machine Shop is recruiting for a full-time Experimental Machinist.  The Machine Shop consists of six full-time positions: five experimental machinists and the shop foreman.

The primary responsibility of the experimental machinist is to provide sophisticated machining services to the Viterbi and Dornsife faculty and graduate research assistants. The faculty research programs continuously require the timely production of prototype, one-of-a-kind parts or equipment to be used in experiments of all types.   

The successful candidate will have journeyman level machining skills with the ability to hold close tolerances to produce high quality prototypes for research purposes, and be adept at setting up and operating CNC, and conventional mills, and lathes. In addition, a variety of other manual machinery, tool grinders, surface grinder, drill presses, etc.  In addition, have experience with a wide variety of metals, plastic, and exotic materials. Shop math and trigonometry required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

3 years of related experience and specialized training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

5 years of related experience and specialized training.

Broad experience in different industries. Experience programming Anilam and Prototrak CNC controllers. Knowledge of SOLIDWORKS and Mastercam is preferred. Skills in TIG and other types of welding are a plus.
