The University of Southern California (USC) department of Facilities Management Services (FMS) – Fire Safety & Compliance is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Technician to join its team.

The Fire Sprinkler Technician provides servicing, repairing, inspecting and testing of fire sprinkler systems.
The ideal candidate for the position of Fire Sprinkler Technician meets the following:
High school diploma or equivalent
3 years of experience inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems
Possess comprehensive knowledge of fire systems; knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
Experience with and the ability to effectively use tools of the trade & computer systems/applications; work at heights (on ladders over 12’ tall, operate and work on 30’ to 55’ lifts, and rooftops); work in tight crawlspaces and attics; lift up to 50 lbs.
Must pass Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Regulation 4 certification test within 6 months of employment
Communicates clearly and effectively
Valid California's driver's license and clean driving record required
Current California Fire Sprinkler Fitter Certification and LAFD Regulation 4 Certification are preferred
Tests fire sprinkler systems according to current codes and regulations. Inspects fire sprinkler systems before, during and after construction projects. Makes recommendations regarding both system installations and service requirements.
Performs preventive maintenance on fire sprinkler systems. Troubleshoots and repairs fire sprinkler systems. Performs minor installations as needed.
Responds to fire/life safety system activations, alarm, trouble and supervisory calls. Stands in as fire watch when fire systems are impaired.
Enables and disables fire systems for construction projects, events and maintenance.
Tracks fire systems impairments. Accounts for the operational status of all fire systems. Enters fire system testing documentation into the fire system database.
Coordinates with contractors for fire system additions and changes.
Maintains stock levels and storage of new and used fire system equipment. Keeps accurate records of materials and time. Ensures proper use of resources and time.
Maintains current knowledge on existing and pending legislation within the industry. Ensures program design(s) reflect the most recent standards and regulations.
Provides customer service and user training, as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Work schedule for this position: Swing Shift 3:00 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. Monday through Friday; however, note that work schedules/hours may change at any time to meet business needs.

Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience as a Fire/Life Safety System Technician. Possess comprehensive knowledge of fire alarm and sprinkler systems including system programming. Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Must pass Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Regulation 4 certification test within 6 months of employment. Demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Valid California’s driver’s license and clean driving record required.
