Laboratory Safety Technician

Chemical Hygiene Los Angeles, California

USC's Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) provides a safe and environmentally healthy workplace for students, employees, and the surrounding community. We support the academic research and administrative activities of the university by anticipating potential risks, evaluating safety procedures, and developing new procedures and programs.  Our divisions include hazardous materials, occupational health (industrial hygiene, injury prevention, and shop safety), research safety (biosafety, laboratory safety – controlled substances), and radiation safety (laser safety).

USC’s Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department is currently seeking a Laboratory Safety Technician to perform technical land administrative duties in support of laboratory safety. This position reports to our Chemical Hygiene Officer. If you are looking for a career in Environmental Health & Safety, we invite you to apply!

Additional responsibilities of this role include:

  • Maintain fume hood certification process. This includes, but is not limited to, initial re-certification testing, EHSA data entry, FMS submission and follow-up, and facilitating instrument calibration.
  • Maintain records and files on all program-related activities.
  • Assists with audits, sampling efforts, safety training, and emergency exercises.
  • Inspects facilities and/or radioactive material packages to ensure safety and compliance with University and regulatory policies and requirements.
  • Assists with space management of research buildings. This includes, but is not limited to , establishing correct lab contact information, documenting accurate PI lab space, building maps, and identifying potential low oxygen environments.

Minimum Education for this role:

  • Associate's Degree, or
  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

  • 1 year

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 2 years
