Open-Rank Adjunct Professor of John H. Mitchell Business of Entertainment Programs

John H. Mitchell Business of Entertainment Program Faculty Los Angeles, California

The USC School of Cinematic Arts is seeking applicants for an open-rank part-time faculty position at the Adjunct Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level (dependent upon experience), to teach course CNTV 522: The Television Industry – Networks, Cable and the Internet. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the television industry, including the conception, development, and selling of an idea. It will also focus on how networks, cable companies, internet, and mobile platforms operate.

Applicants should be able to teach graduate-level students the creative and business practices of developing, producing, marketing, programming, and selling a television series. Qualified candidates will have extensive practical experience within the television industry and will be able to provide an in-depth learning experience that offers a thorough understanding of how television shows are made (creatively and financially), what makes successful programming, and where the future of the industry is headed.

Candidates will be required to call upon contacts from various business units of major entertainment companies and agencies to offer a unique learning experience, and to support lecture topics and discussion of current events related to television networks, cable, and streaming platforms.

Prior teaching or guest lecturer experience at the university level is preferred.

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Fine Arts from a 4-year institution.

Minimum Experience: 10 years professional experience as an agent, manager, or studio executive in the television industry (networks, cable, and/or streaming platforms).

Preferred Education: Master’s degree

Preferred Experience:

  • 12-15 years professional experience as an agent, manager, or studio executive in the television industry (networks, cable, and/or streaming platforms).

  • Demonstrated teaching experience, ideally at the college level, but inclusive of professional and community seminars, workshops, and mentorships.
