Part Time Faculty Position in Planting Design

School of Arch - Staff Los Angeles, California

The USC School of Architecture is seeking qualified lecturers for courses in the discipline of Landscape Architecture.  Core courses including planting design are essential components in our design research studio centered program.

The position will provide plant ecology and planting design instruction for graduate students from diverse backgrounds.  Candidates should have extensive knowledge and professional experience in the development of contemporary planting design in urban conditions including over structure, vertical garden and at grade conditions. Courses will include instruction in plant material identification, planting design and the performance of plant materials in the larger environment. Candidates should have knowledge of native and ornamental plants, their role in resilient landscapes, local codes and ordinances, cultural uses and connotations. Instructors must be able to guide students in hand drawing, digital drawing and physical modelling as planting design media.   Instructors will be responsible for organizing field trips to local arboretums, gardens, parks and other sites with exemplary uses of plant materials.

Candidates must have at least one professional degree in Landscape Architecture, preferably a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA).  Prior teaching experience and research are desirable but not required.

This is a 9 month appointment starting in August 2018.
