The division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is pleased to offer a full-time Physician Assistant position in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, Liver and Kidney Transplant.
The Physician Assistant (P.A.), under the direction of a Hepatobiliary/Transplant Surgeon will assist in the care of patients in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. The P.A. will be an integral part of the delivery of high-quality patient care and services to patients that have undergone abdominal organ transplant as well as hepatobiliary surgeries. He or she will work with the hepatobiliary and transplant surgery team to perform hospital rounds, admit patients, daily inpatient care and discharges. The Physician Assistant will conduct discharge education, coordinate outpatient follow-up with both surgery clinic and consultative clinics. This role will also require he or she to participate in transplant surgery, donor surgery, outpatient clinic when needed as well as order medications, diagnostic studies, ordering procedural interventions, therapeutic procedures under the supervision of the surgery faculty and obtains results in a timely fashion. The Physician Assistant will collaborate with the Surgery Director to develop protocols for refining the management of this patient population regarding clinical acuity and cost perspectives. In addition, he or she will monitor compliance of protocols and work with the Quality Improvement department regarding the care of the post-liver transplant and hepatobiliary patients.
We are seeking an engaged and collaborative team member who will provide education and support to the post hepatobiliary and abdominal transplant patients and their families during the hospital course at the time of discharge. Provide education to the hospital nursing staff regarding the treatment modalities, maintain direct communication with all consulting services, team members, and supervising physicians. This position will also support and participate in clinical research involving hepatobiliary and abdominal transplant patients and work closely with physicians to obtain data for publications. The P.A. will act as a liaison between patients and multiple medical/surgical disciplines to communicate patient care and maintain ongoing dialog with the surgery team and referring physicians plan of care. This position will work to maintain and establish new relationships with referring physicians and with the clinic director on target populations and program marketing.
