Program Administrator

Environmental Health Los Angeles, California

An experienced program/project administrator is needed to manage the business and financial operations for two NIH--supported environmental health centers based in the Division of Environmental Health, Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC).  These centers are the core of a major research effort on environmental health with a special focus on long-term health impacts from air pollution on children. This is an opportunity to work with world-class investigators engaged in studies on the impacts of environmental exposures on health. The centers also have an active community outreach effort helping to apply the best environmental science available to serve grass roots community groups and national environmental organizations.

Responsibilities include working closely with 13 faculty and a four-person financial staff develop oversee and administer planning budgets (that are compliant with Federal and University guidelines providing regular and periodic specialized financial reports;monthly reconciliations, annual salary coverage forecasts, project budget development, oversee financial data and effectively interact with USC financial tracking systems; supervising and overseeing staff processing daily transactions; being responsible for strategic planning, short- and long-term budgeting, and financial analysis.

Excellent financial and forecasting skills are required, as is the ability to work well with different groups, including research faculty and staff. Job qualifications include excellent communication and computer skills, organizational and problem-solving abilities, a demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple projects.Previous experience overseeing and working with a staff of dedicated employees. Bachelor’s degree with three to five years financial management experience required. Master’s in Business Administration with professional experience in a university research environment are preferred.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in financial administration oversight activities, able to lead a group of colleagues in the administrative support of a dynamic and productive research team supported by largely NIH (with some private and university) funding mechanisms
