Program Director – Workday Finance

The University of Southern California (USC) has established programs to optimize its current use of the Workday Human Capital Management; as well as, expand the overall use of Workday. These programs are critical to USC’s overall goals to improve administrative efficiency.

We are currently seeing a Program Director to join the Workday Finance program team within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department here at the University of Southern California. The Program Director will be responsible for designing and executing a deployment strategy for Workday’s financial feature sets across the USC enterprise.

ITS is committed to providing information technology services and support to the university. ITS provides essential, university-wide services such as:

  • Enterprise information systems
  • University wired and wireless networks
  • Educational Technology
  • Research Computing
  • IT Security

This is a fixed-term position with an anticipated end date of December 31st, 2021. Please note that these are full-time roles eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, and vision plans.

What You’ll Do:

  • Report to and take direction from an executive steering committee and program sponsors
  • Draft an overall program charter, and detailed work breakdown structure
  • Refine the overall program approach to ensure the program objectives can be achieved
  • Establish program infrastructure to support the approach
  • Establish and Manage relationships and contracts with outside firms (software vendor, professional services, administrative software, IV&V)
  • Participate in the recruiting and staffing of program personnel including professional services partner(s)
  • Provide oversight and push for resolution on key program issues and key decisions
  • Establish deadlines for evaluating program milestones
  • Working with other program leaders to ensure strong change management
  • Accountable for the overall budget/spend of the program
  • Provide ad hoc updates to key stakeholders of the program (Health, Academic, and Administrative leaders)
  • Support the program workstream lead by being a point of escalation for ongoing governance
  • Direct the delivery of services to targeted program participants or beneficiaries.
  • Set and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria.
  • Provide for quality assurance reviews and addresses areas in need of attention.
  • Provide for the development and maintenance of automated or manual systems and procedures to facilitate program operations.
  • Plan and develops program objectives and content. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly.
  • Assesses quality of program operations.
  • Links program with other relevant departments on or off campus as necessary
  • Develop program operating and administrative policies.
  • Directly or indirectly manages all staff assigned to the program, usually through subordinate managers or supervisors.
  • Determine organizational structure, reporting relationships and short and long-range staffing needs based on program goals.
  • Review and approve hiring and salary actions to ensure compliance with policy. Oversees performance appraisal process for program staff and remains informed of any disciplinary actions required
  • Develop and manages program budgets covering operations. Makes major budgetary and resource allocation decisions. Provides financial status reports as needed
  • Represents the program and university as an authority in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time

The Must Haves:

  • 7 years of program delivery for large and complex enterprise resource planning software
  • Directly related program management experience

The Nice to Haves:

  • 10 years of project and program management for large and complex enterprise resource planning software
  • Experience in managing a deployment of the Workday Financials feature sets
  • Experience with the higher education and/or healthcare industry
