Project Specialist Administrative

Environmental Health Los Angeles, California

A dynamic, out-going, project coordinator is needed to coordinate special events and administrative functions within several large NIH-supported research Centers housed in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Division of Environmental Health at the University of Southern California.  The centers are the core of a major research effort on environmental health in southern California. The centers also have an active community outreach effort helping to apply the best environmental science available to the work of grass roots community groups and national environmental organizations. This is a challenging and rewarding position. Responsibilities include providing all supporting administrative functions for the centers; scheduling and coordinating all center meetings, activities, and special events; serving as an information resource for the Division and for the centers; helping to prepare and edit slides for scientific presentations and assisting with manuscript editing and submission; supervising other center administrative staff and student workers; and completing other duties as assigned. Excellent English writing and speaking skills are required, as is the ability to work well with different groups, including research faculty and staff. Other essential qualifications include attention to detail, excellent editing abilities, and strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are essential; Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Access and/or other database software a plus). The ideal candidate will have superb organizational capabilities, problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple projects. Bachelor’s degree with excellent writing and interpersonal skills are ideal qualifications, although other exceptional candidates will be considered. Professional experience in a research environment is also a plus.
