Job Overview

The USC Rossier School of Education is seeking a candidate for the role of part-time project specialist. The candidate will be working closely with Yasemin Copur-Gencturk on three grant-funded research projects: (a) a NSF-funded project that aims to investigate how and under what conditions beginning elementary and middle school teachers improve their knowledge of teaching mathematics; (b) an IES-funded project that seeks to develop and test an interactive, personalized computer-based professional development program for middle school teachers; and (c) a NSF-funded project that aims to develop instruments to diagnose teachers’ level of learning and to identify their learning trajectories

The project specialist will be responsible for logistical support, coordination of the research operations, supervision of data collection, overall data management, and overseeing and monitoring project budgets. The project specialist will identify key needs for the project and be responsible for moving the research plan forward while monitoring progress and deadlines both internal and external. The project specialist will also track project budgets and maintain fiscal compliance to both university and foundation policies. The position is a contract position authorized for 18 months.

The pay will be commensurate with research and management experience. The Project specialist will be located at the Rossier School of Education on USC’s University Park Campus.


Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate research activities and schedule research meetings
  • In conjunction with the Principal Investigator, supervise research assistants/students
  • Assist with the development, administration, and input of teacher interviews and surveys
  • Organize and manage the data collected
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Research responsibilities include:

  • Assist with qualitative data collection (e.g., observations, interviews) and analysis    
  • Clean and analyze surveys and large administrative data sets
  • Assist with reviews of literature
  • Contribute to reports and articles that are generated from the research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Preference for candidates skilled in qualitative data analysis. Qualitative research techniques include analysis of interviews, focus groups, and case studies.
  • Experience in project management preferred
  • Masters or Doctorate in education policy or other social science preferred
