Project Specialist

Department of Preventive Medicine Los Angeles, California

The Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking Project Specialist to assist research staff in handling day to day logistics of a research study, including developing study protocol and survey tools, recruiting and assisting with focus groups, entering data, and assist in conducting literature and technical research, analyzing data, and/or preparing reports, etc.   

Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with supervisor daily to discuss study tasks and progress.  
  • Conduct and/or participate in assigned technical tasks and activities with minimum supervision.
  • Prepares, organizes and maintains data collection files and materials.
  • Will assist in preparing and will be knowledgeable of study protocols. 
  • Will locate and identify potential study participants. 
  • Will interact effectively and professionally with study participants in English or Spanish as needed.
  • Assist individuals in filling out consent forms.
  • Assist in entering data accurately and efficiently in a web based data entry system. 
  • Assist in planning and facilitating focus group discussions with study participants.
  • Exhibit the flexibility necessary to multi-task, and perform various study tasks and duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
  • Will need to demonstrate attention to detail and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Will assist with GIS mapping
  • Identify and report problems in obtaining valid data. 
  • Anticipate unusual situations and make quick and responsible decisions
  • Will demonstrate excellent grammar, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Will be certified by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) within the University and meets all HIPPA certification as needed.
  • Knowledge and experienced in MS Word, Excel, Power Point required.

Preferred requirements:

Fluent in written and conversational English and Spanish.  Experience working with diverse communities’ is a plus.  Two to three years of experience in related area preferred.  Bachelor’s Degree required. Excellent communication skills a plus and experience in working with a fast paced project. Desired knowledge and experience with GIS mapping.

Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related and experience to be able to advise on project procedures and analysis techniques
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Preferred Experience: 3 years
