The Sol Price School of Public Policy is seeking applicants for the position of non-tenure track research assistant professor to advance its mission in the field of social innovation within the Sol Price Center for Social Innovation. The mission of the Sol Price Center for Social Innovation is to develop ideas and illuminate strategies to improve the quality of life for people in low-income urban communities.   

Position Description:

The Price Center is seeking a scholar for the position of Assistant Professor (Research) to expand its research capacity in social innovation.  The Price Center is seeking to leverage its resources and increase its capacity to study social innovation through a combination of new and existing research efforts. Funding for this position will come primarily from contracts and grants; partial research support will be provided by core funds from the Price Center.  The candidate may also have the opportunity to teach one class per year.  The candidate will have an appointment as an Assistant Professor (Research) within an appropriate department in the Sol Price School of Public Policy. 

Qualifications:

Prospective candidates should have a demonstrated capacity to conduct leading-edge social innovation research.  The successful candidate can conduct innovative research and communicate the findings to both policy and research audiences, with a record of accomplishment of publication in leading field and general interest journals or book publication in a leading academic press.  Expertise in qualitative research methods is essential. A PhD in a relevant field is required, preferably with experience in the field and a record of successful grant funding.   

The Sol Price School of Public Policy:

The mission of the Sol Price School of Public Policy is to improve the quality of life for people and their communities, here and abroad.  We achieve this mission through education and research that promote innovative solutions to the most critical issues facing society, with a particular focus on governance, urban development, and social policy. The Price School offers Ph.D. programs in Public Policy and Management and in Urban Planning and Development; masters’ degrees in Public Administration, Nonprofit Leadership and Management, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Health Administration, and Real Estate Development; executive masters’ degrees; and an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree. 

USC is one of the world’s premiere research universities, and the Price School is a major contributor to the university’s reputation.  Our school supports an array of thematic research centers with $41 million in active sponsored research, ranking third overall in funded research at USC on a per faculty basis. Much of the school’s research is conducted through its centers, institutes, and research groups. Among them are the Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, Bedrosian Center on Governance, Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy, Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy, Center for Economic Development, Center for Sustainable Cities, National Center for Metropolitan Transportation Research, Lusk Center for Real Estate, and the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE), the country’s first Homeland Security Center of Excellence.

The Sol Price Center for Social Innovation:

The Sol Price Center for Social Innovation, housed within the Sol Price School of Public Policy, develops ideas and illuminates strategies to enhance the quality of life for people in low-income urban communities. The center focuses primarily on comprehensive community change, however, we consider social innovation in this context broadly, including efforts resulting in dramatic sectoral (e.g. public safety, health, and education) changes that represent footholds to further progress.
