Research AssociateApply Ellison Institute Los Angeles, California
The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine of USC combines interdisciplinary research in the prevention and treatment of cancer to significantly impact patients’ health, wellbeing, and quality of life. Our goal is to improve cancer outcomes by studying therapeutic response of physiologically relevant model systems including patient-derived co-cultures and primary tissues. We use these model systems to assess molecular tumor markers, dynamics of intracellular processes, or behavior of cells across diverse microenvironments.
We are seeking a talented cell biologist with a strong background in live cell imaging. The qualified candidate will use advanced microscopy techniques to study therapeutic response dynamics using cell lines and ex vivo explants derived from surgically resected tumors. The candidate will develop workflows that include the imaging of live tissues, image analysis and machine learning to assess drug effects in various patient-derived model systems. These workflows will be compared with standard 2D cell culture experiments. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, as the position will contribute to additional image-based research projects and work closely with a diverse team consisting of cell biologists, computational scientists, statisticians and clinicians. The candidate will have the opportunity to aid in the development of grant applications and contribute to writing scientific manuscripts.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, or other relevant discipline. Previous experience with live cell imaging and confocal microscopy is essential. Proficiency with various image analysis software such as CellProfiler, Imaris and Fiji is preferred.
To apply, interested individuals should provide their CV and a 1-2 page cover letter describing their professional goals and indicating how this position can advance these research goals.
