Research Associate

Department of Pathology Los Angeles, California

USC’s Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Southern California Research Center for ALPD and Cirrhosis, is seeking a Research Associate to join its team to pursue cutting-edge research on NIH-funded project(s) pertaining to cellular, molecular and metabolic mechanisms of liver inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer with primary focus on morphogen activation and progenitor cell generation

Job Responsibilities include the following:

  • To be productively engaged in cellular, molecular and metabolic mechanisms of liver inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer with primary focus on morphogen activation and progenitor cell generation leading to publication and federal grant applications.
  • To maintain updated knowledge in assigned research topic(s) by reading new and relevant publications and to apply such knowledge to assigned project(s).
  • To professionally communicate both verbally and in writing to maintain sound scientific communications with colleagues on and off-campus.
  • Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with supervisor.
  • Identifies, researches, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to area of specialization.
  • Analyzes and evaluates research data utilizing computers and provides interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research. Searches literature, utilizing all available resources including electronic, regarding new methodology and designs experiments accordingly.
  • Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.

Additional Job Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent degree with sufficient hands-on training in basic cellular, biochemical, and molecular laboratory skills.

Preferred Requirements:

At least 3-4 years of postdoctoral experiences in basic cellular and molecular research after acquisition of Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Sufficient hands-on training in basic cellular, biochemical, and molecular laboratory skills.


Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods.
