Research Lab Tech (Fixed Term)

The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Lab Technician with strong organizational, interpersonal skills, and self-motivator to join the Cohen Lab team through August 31, 2020. This person will assist in tissue culture, immunofluorescent staining, immunohistochemistry, and animal experiments. Will work in a team as well as performs experiments independently. We focus on mitochondrial-derived peptides and their role in age-related diseases. This position involves lab maintenance and participation in research under direct supervision by the lab manager.
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provide general laboratory assistance to support research activities
Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols
Performs assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction Compiles data and computes results for a variety for research procedures, tests, and techniques
Preparing DNA, mRNA, protein,
Preparing chemical solutions and lab reagents
Maintaining and operating laboratory equipment
Maintaining tissue cultures
Management of mouse colonies
Tissue processing, sectioning, and immunostaining
Will possess a Bachelor or Masters degree in the biological sciences
Has Previous experience with tissue cultures, immunofluorescent staining, immunohistological staining, animal handling.
Has Good organizational skills and an eye for detail are essential. Curiosity.
Must be able to follow detailed instructions, oral and written, and read labels.
Able to work in a team-oriented environment with attention to detail
The usual work schedule is M-F 8-5pm, but may be required to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
This is a fixed-term position with an anticipated end date of employment of 8/31/2020. This position is funded by a research grant. Accordingly, this position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent grant to continue employment.
