Research Lab Technician II

Research Los Angeles, California

The USC Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Lab Technician II to join its team! This is an opportunity for a reliable and self-motivated person to participate in cutting-edge aging and Alzheimer disease research. The Research Lab Technician II has a primary role in maintaining experimental rodent models for a range of research projects investigating systemic and neural effects of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. The successful candidate will also provide basic technical assistance to other laboratory personnel in conducting research experiments and will perform standard tests and procedures under close supervision.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Primary role in the monitoring, maintenance and management of transgenic mouse lines needed for research projects.
  • Assist post-docs and graduate students in executing protocols for phenotypic characterization of mice.
  • Assist post-docs and graduate students in standard laboratory techniques including immunohistochemistry, PCR and Western blotting.
  • Prepare experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Set up and operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct basic experiments. Perform limited routine analysis and provides basic interpretations.
  • Maintain laboratory environment in orderly, operable condition.
  • Learn basic laboratory safety and, if appropriate, basic radiation or blood borne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety Office and more experienced laboratory staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.  Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.

This position is funded by a research grant. Accordingly, this position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent grant to continue employment.  ​
