Research Lab Technician II

Keck School of Medicine of USC Los Angeles, California

The Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, Gastrointestinal Oncology Laboratory at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is seeking a full-time Research Lab Technician II. Our projects include drug and assay development in preclinical and clinical research areas. Research approaches include CTC isolation, gene editing, in vivo studies, and transgenic mice studies. The incumbent will be encouraged to participate in project development.

JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates and performs research projects, keep records of the data and takes an active part in designing research experiments and evaluating results. Organizing lab and responsible for equipment maintenance and overseeing supplies.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provides general laboratory assistance to support research activities. Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Performs assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction. Compiles data and computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.

Maintaining in vitro cultures, mice colony maintenance and procedures with mice such as injections and surgeries, experiments with animal tissues, clinical samples collection and maintaining records.

Preparing buffers, media, and running the in vitro and in vivo assays. Cell and molecular biology experiments related to DNA, RNA and protein from cell, animal or clinical specimen.

Maintaining records of the experimental results, clinical samples data management, ordering supplies and updating the inventory, organizing lab and regular maintenance of equipment, Discussions with senior colleagues for project updates.


Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data. Preferred experience: Two years of research experience in basic science research.
