Research Project Specialist

Sol Price School of Public Policy Los Angeles, California

The mission of the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics is to measurably improve value in health through evidence based policy solutions, research excellence, transformative education, and private and public sector engagement. With its extraordinary breadth and depth of expertise, the Schaeffer Center will have a vital impact on the transformation of healthcare.

The Schaeffer Center has an immediate opening for a Research Project Specialist to assist in the administration and dissemination of a broad research portfolio designed to identify new policies and practices that will improve healthcare quality and access. This is full-time, two year fixed term (renewable) position.

This position will provide administrative oversight and research support to the Schaeffer Center Health Policy Microsimulation Unit.  This position will report to the Director of Health Policy Simulation and will interface closely with the Schaeffer Center External Affairs, Finance, and Development teams.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Participate in the planning, design and development of project protocols, data acquisition and management, analysis and reporting of study results.
  • Conduct literature reviews, generate content, synthesize information.
  • Provide all other aspects of research support (e.g. creating/formatting figures and tables, document review, and presentation development).
  • Draft research reports, policy briefs, and other research dissemination materials. 


  • Implement and maintain project organization and communication plans which enable the research team to effectively work together to meet project objectives.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant management and reporting.
  • Support the research team’s fundraising efforts (e.g. grant proposal preparation, budget preparation and proposal submission). 
  • Coordinate stakeholder meetings to support major research initiatives; keep and synthesize technical minutes, identify action items, and provide follow-up to participants as needed.

  • Strong background in data analysis and policy translation
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Master’s Degree in Health Policy, Health Services Research, Health Economics, Public Health or related field, required.

Minimum Experience:

2 years of related professional experience (education not substitutable).
