Keck Medicine of USC includes the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the region’s first medical school; the renowned USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the first comprehensive cancer centers established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States; the USC Care Medical Group, a medical faculty practice; the Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes two acute care hospitals: 401-licensed bed Keck Hospital of USC and 60-licensed bed USC Norris Cancer Hospital; and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, a 158-licensed bed community hospital. Receive and manage all incoming inquiries from any customer; patient, insurance company, USC employee as walk-ins or via telephone or written correspondence. Documents all activity in the facility’s patient accounting system. Requirements will include being well versed in insurance products, medical group risks, and all governmental programs and benefits structures. Must be knowledgeable of the Financial Assistance Programs and all screening requirements. Contacts and work collaboratively with the financially responsible party with regards to patient liability. Partner to evaluate the ability to meet their obligation and collect monies due to the organization. Able to work with minimal supervision.
-High School graduate or equivalent.
-Two years of experience in a high volume organization with strong customer service background required, hospital or health care setting preferred.
-Knowledge of collection techniques.
-Effective written and verbal communication skills.
-Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette.
-Problem solving skills essential.
-Insurance knowledge and communication with payers.
-Ability to think independently and use good judgment for situations which require initiative and innovation.
-Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and some knowledge of Access (preferred).
-Knowledge of basic office equipment.
-Ability to establish work priorities and prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
-Analytical and problem-solving skills.
-10 Key by touch and ability to type 45 wpm.
-Basic math calculation skills.
-Understanding of hospital reimbursement methodologies, including DRGs, APGs and standard payment methodology: PREFERRED
-Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT-4 and HCPC’s coding systems – PREFERRED
-Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and all other third party payment methods: PREFERRED
-Understanding of contract payer policies and procedures – PREFERRED
-Ability to interpret Managed Care Contracts – PREFERRED
-Bilingual English/Spanish - PREFERRED
