The University of Southern California’s (USC’s) Information Technology Services is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer (ERP) with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join its team. As the Senior Software Engineer (ERP), you will be an integral member of the Enterprise Applications team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to help solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for our campus stakeholders across a broad base of departments and constituencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate for the position of Senior Software Engineer (ERP) must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Five years of experience in a relevant field such as information technology, higher education, etc.
  • Experience working in open source environments such as Java, Eclipse, Struts, Spring, XML, JSP, Jetspeed, Ant, JUnit, JMeter, JSTL, MySQL, and/or Shibboleth.
  • Experience working with application servers, web applications, object relational mapping tools, and web and client-server technologies.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and developing software solutions.
  • Ability to provide technical expertise and creative solutions while maintaining alignment to the organization's objectives and customer needs.
  • Experience creating scalable, automated solutions.
  • Substantial knowledge in security concepts and experience with secure code development techniques.
  • Experience planning and performing unit and system integration testing and facilitating performance and user acceptance testing.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members.
  • Ability to provide both detailed information as well as summaries to management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the position of Senior Software Engineer (ERP) has the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc.
  • More than eight years of experience in a relevant field such as information technology, higher education, etc.
  • Experience working with Tomcat application servers.
  • Experience using object relational mapping tools including OJB, Hibernate, and JPA.
  • Experience using J2EE for web applications.

THE WORK YOU WILL DO

The Senior Software Engineer (ERP) develops and configures the Kuali solution. The Senior Software Engineer (ERP) ensures that all ERP functionality and capabilities meet the needs of a broad range of customers, partners, and key stakeholders by translating requirements into code that enhances the customer experience and creates business value. As part of ITS, the Senior Software Engineer (ERP) demonstrates ITS values in action.

Job Accountabilities

The Senior Software Engineer (ERP):

  • Works collaboratively with team members, stakeholders, and vendors to understand specifications and deliver features based on business requirements. Mentors team members and peers on effective collaboration with a variety of stakeholders. Provides guidance on problem solving by introducing problem-solving methodologies and frameworks. Communicates and presents problem-solving rationale to diverse audiences
  • Participates in project and task planning. Contributes to the development and execution of best-in-class processes and procedures. Monitors alignment with university and ITS goals and customer needs. Contributes to the university’s compliance with security governance and policies by embedding standards, procedures, and quality measures into work plans and workflows. Produces high-quality deliverables.
  • Gains insight into customer pain points, challenges, and needs to ensure customer-focused solutions. Advocates for the customer point-of-view when identifying priorities and presenting solutions. Builds and maintains effective customer relationships by providing timely follow-up and feedback. Handles customer requests and routes them to the appropriate party for tracking and resolution. Seeks to deliver quality solutions.
  • Leads innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging the latest industry knowledge. Maintains currency with new technologies. Learns and adapts quickly to new situations and technologies. Identifies opportunities to continually develop skills, knowledge, and abilities. Demonstrates a propensity for innovation by experimenting with new ideas and technologies. Anticipates the impact of emerging technologies and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Develops new and revised software applications to drive the continuous improvement of university solutions. Ensures code is maintainable, supportable, and has the potential to scale with business growth. Develops high-quality code that performs as intended upon implementation. Provides guidance on priorities to peers and team members in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Leverages best practices to support logical and efficient decision making. Reviews opportunities for impact and recommends best-in-class solutions. Defines success criteria and measures activities for success. Thoughtfully listens to others and asks relevant questions to confirm understanding. Conducts root cause analysis exercises to identify issues. Develops and prioritizes realistic solutions to enhance business value.
  • Contributes to an inclusive environment that values differences by building and maintaining collaborative relationships with team members, peers, and ITS leaders.
