Statistician I

Office of the VP, Admission & Planning Los Angeles, California

The Office of Institutional Research is seeking a Statistician I position to develop quantitative/analytic models, and perform data analysis at the request of academic stakeholders. This position will perform data collection, data management, and conduct statistical analyses responding to data requests from the Office of the Provost, and academic departments within the university. The Statistician I participates in planning, design and development of complex research protocols, and reports for publication. This position oversees maintenance of computer software and hardware, writes computer programs as needed, and supervises data entry/programming staff.

This position recommends and implements procedures related to data collection, management, and quality control. The Statistician I develops input methodology, and data file structure in response to the unique needs of our academic units and administrative operations. This role will oversee data-collection efforts and maintenance of data files, including backups and hard copies.  Schedules, assigns and prioritizes workloads for the Office of Institutional Research.  Sets appropriate deadlines, and ensures timely completion of all research, standard and customized reports.  Performs data analysis using statistical tools including TABLEAU, SPSS, and R. Reviews results for anomalies, investigates to determine cause and ensures accuracy of all data. Assists in interpretation of results, and prepares tables or graphs for inclusion in reports and special customized databases. The Statistician I is responsible for the development of quantitative and statistical models to support business initiatives for the Office of the Provost, Admission and Planning, and all academic departments. Installs, tests, modifies and maintains computer programs for statistical analysis as needed. The Office of Institutional Research reports to the Office of Admissions and Planning. Other duties will include:

  • Managing course evaluation and survey administration activities
  • Extract data, run analysis and publish information
  • Editing, fact-checking, and compiling ad hoc reports
  • Supervising part-time research analysts
  • Developing better reporting and extracting systems
  • Build, deploy and scale programs in PYTHON
  • Perform quantitative data analysis using a variety of statistical applications
  • Perform logical batched and non-batched statistical analysis using SPSS
  • Run customized SQL queries

Minimum Education: -Master's degree -Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: -2 years -Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: -Biometry, Biostatistics or Statistics; mainframe computer and PC experience; experience with SAS, Epilog, BMDP, GLIM or SPSS Preferred Experience: -Three years -Significant experience conducting web-based surveys and course evaluation activities; proven expertise using TABLEAU, Python and R language programming
