The Information Sciences Institute invites applications for a postdoctoral position in binary program analysis for reverse engineering, vulnerability discovery and attack mitigation.
The Information Sciences Institute at University of Southern California is a world leader in the research and development of advanced information processing, computing, and communications technologies. ISI actively participated in the information revolution, and played a leading role in developing and managing the early Internet and its predecessor ARPAnet. Today, its research spans artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, grid computing, quantum computing, microelectronics, supercomputing, nano-satellites and many other areas. . ISI has three research campuses: one in Marina Del Rey, CA; one in Arlington, VA; and one in Waltham, MA.

In this position, the successful applicant is expected to contribute to the design and development of new binary program analysis techniques, and to explore novel avenues for improving automated vulnerability discovery approaches.
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in computer science, have a strong background in systems security, and be familiar with the following topics:
- Static/dynamic program analysis, debugging.
- Reverse engineering, x86/x64 and/or ARM assembly.
- Python and C programming.
Optionally, prior experience with any of the following topics will be appreciated:
- Malware analysis and detection and/or intrusion detection.
- Kernel and OS programming and/or system instrumentation.
- Program analysis frameworks such as angr, KLEE, BAP, Radare.
- Participation in Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions is optional but will be appreciated.
This project will start with an initial appointment of one year.
