Learning Technology Specialist

Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Los Angeles, California

The mission of the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is to improve the well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities, advance social and economic justice, and eradicate pressing societal problems in complex and culturally diverse urban environments throughout Southern California, the nation, and the world. The Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California seeks a Technical Support Specialist to support digital learning platforms' seamless integration and functionality. The primary focus is to help and guide faculty, staff, and students in using online learning platforms such as Canvas, Brightspace, and Zoom. Provides consultative services on multimedia hardware and software for faculty, staff, and students. Assists with developing documentation for staff and student training, end-user procedures including operational and security procedures. Interprets policies and procedures. Networks with professional counterparts inside and outside the university. The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical expertise, strong communication and collaboration skills, a customer-focused approach, adaptability to technological advancements, and a commitment to ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of online learning platforms within the School of Social Work. 

The Learning Technology Support Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Provide timely and effective assistance via various communication channels (email, phone, chat) to address user inquiries, technical issues, and concerns related to the learning management systems, online tools, software, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Providing training and documentation on how to use online learning platforms effectively and efficiently.
  • Collaborating with other IT staff to ensure the quality and accessibility of online learning resources and escalate and resolve complex technical issues externally.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance and usage of online learning platforms and reporting any problems or feedback to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the instructional design team to ensure that the technical aspects of online courses align with pedagogical goals and best practices.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new educational technologies that align with the needs and initiatives of the School of Social Work.
  • Staying updated on the latest developments and best practices in online learning technology and pedagogy.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Education:  Associate’s degree, or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education in computer science, information technology, education, or a related field
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year At least one year of direct experience in providing technical support for online learning platforms such as Canvas, Brightspace, and Zoom

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PREFERRED Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, education, or a related field
  • PREFERRED Experience: At least one year of direct experience in providing technical support for online learning platforms such as Canvas, Brightspace, and Zoom
  • Experience or education in Social Work

The hourly rate range for this position is $32.79 - $38.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Working knowledge of networks and collaboration tools. Solid understanding of information technology concepts for voice and data systems, and ticket system for problem tracking and/or study in networking and/or computer information systems. Specialized knowledge of and experience with audio-visual equipment.
