Business Intelligence Director - Business Intelligence - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)
Apply Keck Medicine of USC Hospital Alhambra, CaliforniaThe Director of Business Intelligence will streamline business intelligence & analytics to increase operational efficiency and expediency of knowledge dissemination to support billing and operational initiatives through innovation and solutions based practices. This role requires an exceptional leader with proven ability to utilize strong process and data-driven analytical skills to identify the processes, systems, and/or practices that lead to sub-optimal performance– and successfully resolve these issues through process simplification, reengineering, and change management. Manages a team of business and IT professionals to support, maintain and sustain the USC Care Business Intelligence platform and associated web applications. Provides leadership and oversight of the following: application implementation, support and management, system training, and report development. Supervises the reporting capabilities within applications to ensure consistency and integrity in these reports. Oversees the integration/interfaces into professional billing system. Manages customer relationships and communicates with senior management.
Essential Duties:
- Directly or indirectly supervises all assigned subordinate staff, usually through other supervisors. Recruits, screens, hires and trains staff. Assesses need for technical and professional growth and recommends development opportunities. Evaluates employee performance and provides guidance and feedback. Counsels and/or disciplines as needed.
- Sets departmental goals and objectives and communicates to staff. Reassesses or redefines priorities as appropriate in order to achieve performance objectives.
- Plans and administration of departmental and project budgets as assigned.
- Leads meetings for business requirements gathering with executive management and business users of the organization. Proactively communicates and collaborates with these users to analyze information needs and functional requirements.
- Translates business requirements into functional specifications for the Business Intelligence system. Oversees the design and development of data extraction, transform and load (ETL) packages, SQL queries, stored procedures, OLAP cubes, dashboards, and analytic reports.
- Reviews and prioritizes systems development and/or system configuration requests. Prepares cost estimates for current and proposed projects, reflecting staff and equipment requirements. Develops project specifications. Plans and coordinates project schedules and related activities. Directs coding, testing, installation, debugging and documentation of systems developments and/or enhancements.
- Ensures all information systems products meet standards and user requirements. Tests software and hardware and monitors and resolves problems.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of systems, programming and operations documentation.
- Develops training materials and programs for department staff and users.
- Identifies possible training and system enhancements.
- Builds & establishes effective partnerships and fosters innovation, engaging multiple departments, including: IT, decision support, finance, medical staff and various departmental stakeholders.
- Collaborates with technology partners to accelerate improvement efforts.
- Direct teams of developers and integration engineers and mentors their professional development in the fields of data normalization, report distribution and data stewardship principles.
- Improves departmental and organizational performance. Develops benchmark measures to evaluate productivity within business units.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req Bachelor’s Degree Degree in related field.
- Req 5+ years Directly relevant experience administering comparable information systems to be able to provide technical direction to systems development and support staff.
- Req 3 years Supervisory and budget experience.
- Req Organization/time management skills.
- Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
- Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
- Req Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref Master’s degree Business Administration Equivalent in health care administration, business administration or engineering.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $158,080.00 - $260,832.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
