Finance Director (AH) - Finance Admin Unit - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Finance Director will be responsible for providing strategic reporting and information to hospital and health system leadership by analyzing operational volumes, expense & service utilization, and the organization's competitive position in the marketplace. Additionally, the Director is responsible for budgeting processes, analyzing ongoing operations, measuring performance against peer hospitals, analyzing new services, contracting methodologies, cost accounting and decision support. Responsible for internal and external reporting of financial data and developing and training of the DSS team and providing guidance to Accounting staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement operating budget program. Train Finance staff and department managers to use budget system capabilities.
  • Educate and enable hospital department managers to perform in-depth financial analysis of: Existing activities, Budget activities, and Proposed new activities to generate additional net revenues and effectively control costs.
  • In conjunction with Information Systems, develop and modify reporting systems to provide ongoing and adhoc case management reporting.
  • Collaborate with Business Services to provide accurate and timely managed care information to develop analysis of ongoing activity, reserve requirements, IBNR analysis and reserves for financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principals.
  • Collaborate with Hospital and Health System in Capital budgeting and tracking of commitments and expenditures.
  • Meet Medicare and Medi-Cal cost reporting requirements including internal reporting of Medicare and Medi-Cal financial results and reserve requirements.
  • Participate in development of Hospital-wide Information Systems Strategy.
  • Responsible for the effective leadership of the department, either personally or through delegation. Developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services; orienting and providing in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department (service)
  • Supervise Finance staff in developing and implementing reporting tools for effective communication of financial data to department managers.
  • Act as a resource for other employees in the use of decision support tools and software applications.
  • Exhibits a proactive attitude and takes initiative in various projects assigned by the Hospital leadership.
  • Develops and maintains major tools to automate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting.
  • Directs team’s skill sets to utilize available software with efficiency and confidence to automate standard reports.
  • Provide guidance to Accounting staff to develop and implement reporting tools for external reporting in compliance with external regulatory requirements.
  • Support Health System strategy in development and implementation of system wide decision support system and other reporting tools.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area.
  • Req minimum of four (4) years of experience in hospital finance management
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks, strong verbal and written skills, and sound decision making abilities.
  • Ability to understand and explain costing, revenue, and profitability data to key stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Master degree in accounting or related area..

Required Licenses/Certifications:


The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00.
