Referral Coordinator - Arcadia Med Surg Oncology - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)
Apply Keck Medicine of USC Hospital Arcadia, CaliforniaThe Referral Coordinator at Keck Medicine of USC is a motivated, organized and efficient individual who has responsibility for managing and coordinating the process of referring patients to the appropriate provider, communicating back to the patients with the appropriate information, supporting the clinic in synchronizing appointments, authorizations and tests taking place in various clinics. . The position requires good telephone and interpersonal skills, efficient organization of incoming consults, and ability to coordinate team communication throughout the day. The position also requires a proficient knowledge of computer software applications including Word, Excel and Access for the purpose of creating spreadsheets, maintaining databases and contributing to the performance of routine analyses of the Excel Data. Abilities with PowerPoint also a plus. The position will require the person to self-direct for data input and prioritization of tasks for clinical issues and scheduled data deadlines.
Essential Duties:
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers in relaying data information in a timely manner.
- Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety. This tracking may use an IT database.
- Assemble information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs. Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to specialist.
- Enters/submits registration data in a timely manner, ensuring that all information is accurate.
- Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.
- Maintains data tables to provide reports by service, attribution, and location for any internal/external audits.
- Prepare reports for hospital departments/services as requested by department director.
- Formats reports utilizing statistical tools to assure meaningful data Reports have benchmark information from historical data and/or external literature.
- Ensure that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining a consistent referral flow for the department through excellent customer service within our community.
- Enters patient data into patient database.
- Supports the department office as directed by the Director/Manager.
- Demonstrate awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional growth.
- Demonstrate self-directed learning and participates in continuing education to meet own professional development.
- Demonstrate clear, effective communication, team building, interpersonal, strong organizational, problem solving decision-making skills.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and maintained a level-headed approached when faced with unforeseen occurrences.
- Participates in the outreach programs identified by the department; internal and external.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req High School or equivalent
- Req Excellent working knowledge of ambulatory care demographics and clinical data elements, medical terminology and statistical formulae.
- Req Excellent skills in the use of networked personal computers, data mining systems and statistical software.
- Req Mastery of Microsoft Office applications.
- Req Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access scripts.
- Req Excellent graphical presentation skills.
- Req Excellent communication skills for collaboration and education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref 2 years Experience in referral management, data management, health information systems, and clinical technology at a healthcare facility.
- Pref Chinese speaking.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 - $39.69.
