Director of Plant Operations and Engineering - Plant Operations - Full-Time (Exempt) 8 Hour Days

Verdugo Hills Hospital - Chief Operating Officer Hospital Glendale, California

Responsible for plant management and maintenance and for planning and directing the maintenance and repair of major plant and equipment, building, and grounds. Also responsible for construction on existing facilities, gardening, and grounds maintenance and for Safety Officer duties.

  • Assists other co-workers with trouble-shooting and necessary repairs as well as installation of new service or projects as needed.
  • Works as a productive team member and provide project leadership
  • Performs electrical repairs such as removal, replacement of switches, ballast, motors, motor controls etc.
  • Performs plumbing functions such as drains, fixtures, routing, cleaning etc. as assigned
  • Performs carpentry such as installation and repairs of doors, windows, screens, locks, etc.  as needed .
  • Performs plastering, bricklaying or concrete work as needed.
  • Assists in other areas of the department such as power plant and mechanical rooms as needed
  • Repairs patient electrical and mechanical beds and equipment. 
  • Checks lighting in and around hospital buildings on a regular basis.
  • Replaces bulbs as needed and/or makes necessary repairs to fixtures; repairs various types of electrical circuits and devices as needed.
  • Services and repairs and maintains mechanical equipment, as assigned.
  • Solders and welds materials as necessary.
  • Check hospital systems for proper function (i.e., electrical power, air handling units, medical gas, steam boiler operation, hot water, etc.).
  • Identifies and implements energy conservation measures when appropriate.
  • Removes and replaces defective or outdated equipment.
  • Procures necessary parts and materials for jobs
  • Inspects and repairs safety equipment as needed.
  • Cleans work area after completion of projects.
  • Performs project work, as assigned.
  • Installs new equipment as per specifications.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on hospital equipment and systems as required.
  • Is familiar with DNV, ISO9001 and NFPA Life Safety Code 101 requirements for hospital.
  • Handles hazardous materials carefully, safely and disposes of properly.
  • Establishes work schedules and daily assignments
  • Assists with planning and execution of major projects.
  • Trains staff as required for new assignments.
  • Reads and interprets blue print drawings.

Minimum Education: • Bachelor’s degree preferred; commensurate experience acceptable Minimum Experience/Knowledge: • Twenty (20) years of plant operations experience in the healthcare industry in all aspects of facilities management, engineering, safety and disaster preparedness and regulatory compliance • Extensive knowledge and skills in electrical engineering, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, painting and grounds keeping • Experience in operations of the following: - Maintaining emergency generators and power distribution systems - Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry - Chiller, cooling towers, related pumps and motors and boilers - Back up water systems - Hazard Control Management - Hazwhopper - Nurse call systems - Fire alarm systems - Emergency Response Team training - Tuberculosis Control and Isolation Room Ventilation As part of Keck Medicine of USC, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital is the only community hospital in the Foothills area of Los Angeles backed by an academic medical center.
