This position is for an on-campus instructor for EDUC 642, for the first summer term, 2025. This course is an introduction to learning research and theory, issues in learning and educational psychology situated in the context of diverse, urban settings. This course examines the nature of human learning from a complex, transdisciplinary, developmental perspective, and uses what is learned to both interrogate and inform the design of schools and other educational environments in ways that support equity, justice, and human dignity, and that strategically position learners and teachers not simply to manage in the world we have, but to invent the world we need and to thrive in that world. The course provides an overview of controversies in learning and teaching from a range of cultural perspectives, and introduces students to key issues and evidence across domains of academic and social learning, including racial, ethnic and identity-related aspects of development, disciplinary learning in literacy, science, math, social studies and the arts, and learning in online and digital environments, among other topics. It is required of first year PhD students, and open to PhD students only.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Doctorate in Education
Experience: 3+ years of experience as education researcher specializing in issues of learning and instruction across the developmental range.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience: 3+ years’ experience as an educational researcher.
Knowledge of controversies in learning and instruction and current state of educational environment.
An interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary background is desired as well as knowledge of the shared processes of academic learning (literacy) and social-emotional learning (e.g., SE functioning/identity development) for child, adolescent and adult learners.
Technology: Zoom Platform; Moodle-based learning management systems; MS Office software; Google Apps (esp., Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, and Gmail).
Adjunct Faculty: USC reserves the “Adjunct Faculty” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty may teach one class each semester (summer, fall and spring).
The base salary range for this position is $7,280- $9,360 per course.
