Keck Medicine of USC includes the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the region’s first medical school; the renowned USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the first comprehensive cancer centers established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States; the USC Care Medical Group, a medical faculty practice; the Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes two acute care hospitals: 401-licensed bed Keck Hospital of USC and 60-licensed bed USC Norris Cancer Hospital; and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, a 158-licensed bed community hospital. To ensure the provision of progressive, cost effective, quality patient care by advancing the level of nursing practice through expert practice, education, consultation, research and leadership for the orthopedic patient population.
Under Advanced Practice Scope of Practice, general supervision, and in accordance with standardized procedures, incumbent performs assessment of perioperative patients to identify chronic health care problems, counsel patients and families, monitors patient progress. Role responsibilities include those of practitioner, educator and consultant. Patient population includes those with perioperative conditions.
Works in collaboration with perioperative/anesthesia care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate. Is responsible for management of clinical aspects of patient population.
- Conducts in-depth assessment with complex patients and/or family.
- Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventative care, medical problems, psychological problems and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
- Develops and implements evidence-based care delivery plans for the perioperative population.
- Assists in development and implementation of treatment plans for complex perioperative patients.
- Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results as appropriate.
- Writes order to increase, decrease or change medication in the treatment of conditions described in the Standardized Procedures as appropriate.
Consults with nursing, medical and allied healthcare disciplines regarding resources plan of care, discharge planning and outpatient follow-up for the perioperative population.
Master of Science in Nursing
Minimum 5 years RN/NP experience in acute hospital with perioperative patient population. Academic Medical Center experience preferred
California Registered Nursing License
Nurse Practitioner BRN Certification, State of California
Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number, State of California preferred
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number, State of California (Optional)
BLS for the Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
