The University of Southern California Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (USC Mann) is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month calendar, non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy. The successful candidate will be appointed as Assistant/Associate Professor (Clinician Educator) for USC Mann, with the rank assigned determined by experience, expertise, and established academic excellence and leadership.  The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of USC Mann through excellence in patient care, education, scholarship and service.

The Clinician-Educator position has an expectation of 80%-time commitment to a combination of clinical and educational efforts. The faculty member is expected to establish a clinical practice in oncology/immunology at one of our affiliated medical centers.  The faculty member will collaborate and communicate with an interdisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional patient care that supports innovative scholarship and an expert teaching and learning environment. Collaborative scholarship across departments and schools within the university is encouraged.

The faculty member will contribute to teaching excellence through didactic instruction in the Doctor of Pharmacy program as well as experiential education at the clinical practice site.  There may also be opportunities to teach in our graduate programs (MS & PhD) and residency training programs.  Teaching efforts will include course coordination involving development of formal class lectures, assessments, and the construction and delivery of didactic and active learning materials. A new curriculum will be launched next year and the faculty candidate will be instrumental in teaching necessities within that curriculum. The faculty member will also participate in programmatic events such as Interprofessional Education (IPE) events, Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs), Scholarly Project Symposium, and other Pharm.D. programmatic requirements. Inclusive teaching methods and expert use of pedagogical techniques and technologies is expected.  Qualified candidates will preferably have demonstrated experience or leadership in diversity and inclusion within their prior academic and professional work environments that they can bring to the clinical practice and education setting.

As a faculty member, the successful candidate is expected to incorporate scholarly activities and service to the school.  Routine faculty administration and participation duties, including attendance at departmental and pharmacy faculty council meetings, assigned committee service, as well as annual review submissions, peer review, and peer-to-peer teaching evaluation activities are components of faculty citizenship. The faculty member should also contribute to the growth of the profession through service on a national level.

Required Credentials and Experience:

Applicants must have a PharmD degree, and California licensure (or eligibility for licensure with passing the State Board exam at the first available sitting). Candidates to be considered should have completed a PGY2 pharmacy residency or 1-2 years oncology or immunology fellowship. Board certification in oncology is strongly preferred. A record of professional leadership and evidence of engagement in scholarship is also preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

The University of Southern California offers a competitive salary and benefits package within an academic environment based on the candidate’s experience, accomplishments, and continuous funding sources. The University’s benefits options include health, dental and life insurance; tuition assistance; disability and retirement plans; credit union membership; and participation in cultural and social events, as well as access to athletic and recreational facilities.

The position does not lead to consideration for tenure. Merit review is conducted annually from which salary enhancements are decided. Re-appointment and eventual promotion within the clinician educator are with expectations based on continual performance assessment and longitudinally via administrative review, with department evaluation, dossier construction and submission, and internal/external review.
