The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at CHLA in the Division of Pain Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at USC, are actively seeking a full time faculty member for the position of Pediatric Comfort and Palliative Care Psychologist with a with an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics.
We are seeking a highly qualified clinical psychologist with a PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited doctoral program to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience treating children with chronic, life-altering, and/or terminal illnesses, working within an interdisciplinary team in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, research, and leadership is essential.
This position is within the Division of Comfort and Palliative Care, where the psychologist will play a vital role in providing clinical care while dedicating a significant portion of time to innovative research. A key responsibility will be to help drive the growth, sustainability, and expansion of the Division’s programs.
The Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine supports a diverse range of clinical services, delivered by a team of approximately 40 anesthesiologists, 25 critical care medicine intensivists, and 3 palliative care physicians, including:
- Comprehensive anesthesiology and sedation services across the main operating room, ambulatory surgery center, radiology, catheterization lab, and other remote locations.
- Critical care services in the 24-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), 24-bed cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU), Level I trauma unit and procedural sedation.
- Acute, post-operative, and chronic pain management, including non-pharmacologic treatments such as dog therapy, acupuncture, and biofeedback.
- Palliative care services that offer physical, emotional, and spiritual support for children and young adults with life-threatening illnesses, along with support for their families.
- Treatment at our ambulatory Pain and Palliative Care outpatient clinics.
The department operates the largest training program at CHLA, teaching nearly 250 trainees per year including physician fellows and residents, student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNA), and anesthesia technicians who rotate from other nearby schools (USC, UCLA, Kaiser, and others).
The annual base salary range for this position is 128,000-$132,000.
