As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students and staff that make the university what it is.
The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute and Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (INI, www.ini.usc.edu) are world leaders in the development of advanced computational and scientific approaches for the comprehensive mapping of brain structure and function. INI’s unique multidisciplinary environment and cutting-edge resources allow for integration of clinical, psychological, and genotypic information with neuroimaging phenotypes for research questions in neurology, psychiatry, and environmental neuroscience.
The INI seeks highly-qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Research Neurology (non-tenure track). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years experience with MRI technical development and applications. The candidate will be mainly responsible for developing advanced neurovascular imaging technologies at 3 and 7T, and will be involved in clinical application studies. The focus of the research will be developing and optimizing arterial spin labeled (ASL) techniques for mapping perfusion and blood brain barrier (BBB) function and other advanced quantitative MRI methods at 3 and 7T with clinical applications in cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. There are opportunities to perform preclinical MRI studies to validate clinical imaging methods as well as to understand the underlying neurophysiological mechanism.
Candidates must be skilled in MRI pulse sequence programming and/or image reconstruction methods to drive innovation. The candidate should have experience in managing and coordinating team science initiatives that include image analytics and relating clinical data to imaging markers. Advanced knowledge of perfusion and functional MRI pipelines and translation to clinical studies is a plus.
The candidate must be able to display strong mentorship skills, and must excel at oral and written scientific communication. The individual should be nationally and internationally recognized for their technical and scientific leadership as demonstrated by their publication record in premier medical and imaging conferences and journals.
The ideal candidate has a PhD degree in Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with rigorous training and experience in the elements of modern neuroimaging, including image acquisition, image processing and reconstruction. Deep knowledge of the current challenges and state-of-the-art techniques for functional and physiological brain imaging, particularly meso-scale data acquisition and analysis, statistics, and visualization of magnetic resonance imaging datasets, is required.
The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000-$150,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
