Assistant Sports Performance Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION
USC Athletics is looking to hire an Assistant Sports Performance Coach to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This role is responsible for implementing evidence-based training programs for teams assigned by the Director of Olympic Sports Performance. Training programs will seek to optimize performance and decrease injury potential; this includes sport-specific conditioning programs, teaching proper resistance training, speed, and agility techniques and placing an emphasis on safety at all times.
Additional requirements include assisting with the overall operation of the Sports Performance department as determined by the Director of Sports Performance while promoting the philosophy and objectives of the athletic department.
Reporting directly to the Director of Olympic Sport Performance, the Assistant Sport Performance Coach will work in collaboration with the sport performance staff, sports science, sports medicine, sports nutrition, sport staff, and other various areas within athletics. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, have a growth mindset that constantly seeks to understand and implement best practice training protocols within the scope of their individual team’s/sport’s needs. Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred.
This is an exempt position, and work responsibilities in evenings and on weekends is expected.
Roles and responsibilities to include:
Implementing an evidence-based training program to optimize performance and decrease injury potential, including sport-specific conditioning programs, teaching proper resistance training, speed, and agility techniques with an emphasis on safety at all times.
Collaboration with sport science, nutrition, athletic medicine, and the coaching staff of assigned teams to identify physical imbalances, injury trends specific to the sport, as well as other various opportunities to enhance performance to deliver a comprehensive training program for student-athletes.
This position will be required to maintain files, which track changes in performance throughout the career of student-athletes while at the University of Southern California. This data should be reviewed on a regular basis with the Director of Sports Performance, coaches, and student-athletes.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in an area focused on human performance (master’s degree preferred) and a minimum of 3 years of experience (5 years preferred). Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
NCAA- and nationally-recognized strength and conditioning certification.
BLS, CPR, and AED certification required.
Experience working in higher education and/or a sports related field ideal.

Salary Range
The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
