Apply Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism Faculty Los Angeles, CaliforniaThe School of Communication at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism seeks a Clinical Faculty / Faculty of Professional Practice for a full-time faculty position in public diplomacy. Candidates should have a firm grounding in the practice of contemporary public diplomacy, as well as the desire and expertise required to lead the field into the future. Teaching experience will be a major plus. The appointment will be at the Associate Professor of Practice level, depending on the candidate's experience.
Successful candidates will have: an outstanding record as a public diplomat, experience advancing the foreign policy interests of a nation state or other actor through engagement with a foreign public; a minimum of 5 years of experience exclusively in the public diplomacy field.
• The successful candidate will preferably (but not necessarily) hold an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
• Expertise of special interest include information statecraft in the digital age; climate diplomacy; global health; human rights/NGO diplomacy; exchange diplomacy; crisis management; public diplomacy in the Middle East, South or Southeast Asia; Eastern or Western Europe.
Other desired characteristics include:
• Highly motivated, out-of-the-box thinker intent on making a significant contribution to teaching, practice and the study of the field.
• Strong evidence of the potential to be an outstanding instructor.
The new colleague will:
Teach in the Master's Program in Public Diplomacy (the first and leading degree of its kind in the world). This may include preparing at least three specialist classes on key aspects of contemporary public diplomacy and contributions to the introductory 'global issues in public diplomacy' class. Specialist classes don’t necessarily run every year.
Teach in the minor in Cultural Diplomacy, introducing the field to undergraduates.
Working with the current faculty the successful candidate will:
· Advance an innovative and cross-disciplinary vision for public diplomacy teaching at USC that prepares students to thrive in this rapidly-changing landscape.
· Serve as an advocate for our program in the recruiting of new students and faculty, while also forging career connections and mentoring existing students and alumni.
· Demonstrate excellence, knowledge, and foresight in attending to the increasing needs for diversity and equity in public diplomacy.
· Draw from their experience in the field to immediately advance our curriculum in areas such as digital diplomacy and information statecraft.
About the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism
The USC Annenberg School was established in 1971 with a gift from US Ambassador Walter Annenberg. It has grown over time to include programs in both Journalism and Communication, and now houses several important centers and initiatives (https://annenberg.usc.edu/research) including the Centre on Public Diplomacy (https://uscpublicdiplomacy.org/), which is a world-leading center for public diplomacy research.

The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000.
