Cancer Center Special Project Manager

The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California (USC Norris) was founded in 1971 and has been continuously funded as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1973. USC Norris has a rich tradition of collaborative research and serves as a major regional and national resource for cancer research, prevention, treatment, and education. 

USC Norris members have more than $130M in annual cancer research funding.  The Research Administration Team is responsible for submitting new grants on behalf of the members and for the entire pre-award grants management process at USC Norris.  We are seeking a Special Project Manager (SPM) to join this team.  Under the direction of the USC Norris Senior Research Administrator, the SPM provides high level administrative, project management, and decision support service on several projects critical to the research grant pre-award operations.  The SPM will oversee a number of special projects which include overseeing internal funding opportunities, drafting and disseminating requests for applications (RFAs), and evaluting applicant eligibility.  The SPM will also provide decision support to Cancer Center senior leadership by collecting, maintaining, and organizing project data in support of the Cancer Center’s research mission.  The SPM will be assigned additional research administration projects on an ad hoc basis as needed.

The annual base salary range for this position is $89,640.00 - $110,292.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Basic knowledge of governmental regulations. Strong accounting skills. Competency in project management. A Bachelor’s Degree with broad knowledge of relevant research computer software, e.g.: Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Outlook, SPSS, Visio, and SunGard. Experience in creating and analyzing statistical reports. Must be able to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records and generate reports. Proven oral and written communication skills to interact with other employees.
